Pruden Garners Lyon of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Sophomore Cathleen Pruden has been tabbed as this week’s Lyon of the Week after an outstanding performance at last weekend’s NEWMAC Championships. The swimmer made another outstanding impact as she helped the Lyons achieve six of 11 new school records, while also grabbing a meet record of her own.

The Raleigh, N.C., native finished seventh or better in all seven events she swam in at this year’s NEWMAC Meet. In addition to six school records, Pruden successfully defended her title in the 400-Individual Medley, recording a meet and school record time of 4:25.03. That time was also an NCAA B Cut and moved her up in the national rankings. Currently, Pruden ranks sixth among all Division III swimmers in the 400-IM and is all but secured a spot in this year’s NCAA Championships.

In addition to her 400-IM performance, Pruden also set an NCAA B Cut and shattered her own school record in the 1650-freestyle. Her time of 17:22.83, bested her previous time of 17:30.29, which she set in 2013. Pruden also posted a school record time in the 500-free, finishing third overall with a mark of 5:04.29.

As a member of four relay teams, Pruden helped achieve three school records. Her efforts lifted the 800-free (7:56.08), the 400-medley (4:01.50) and the 200-medley (1:50.26) relays to sixth-place finishes. She was also a member of the 400-free relay (3:39.05), which finished seventh overall.

Pruden now waits for the official selections for participation in the 2014 NCAA Championships, held March 19-22 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The selections are likely to be released on Monday, March 3.
