Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 13th

LACROSSE

The Lyons went 1-1 last week, defeating Coast Guard (12-2) before falling to MIT (12-11). Senior captain Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) recorded seven goals with an assist during the stretch to lead the Lyons. Mount Holyoke (5-7; 2-4 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Amherst for a 6pm game against the Jeffs. MHC wraps up the week on Saturday, hosting Wellesley at 12pm. TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons saw a number of outstanding performances last weekend at the non-team scoring Pioneer Invitational at Smith. Junior Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.) had victories in the 100 and 200-meter dash, while MHC also posted wins in five other events. Mount Holyoke is back in action this weekend when it heads to Maine to take part in the Aloha Relays. Action begins on Friday and runs through Saturday at Bowdoin College.

 

GOLF

The Lyons opened their spring schedule last weekend, finishing fifth overall at the Vassar Invitational. Leading the way was sophomore June Conti (Amenia, N.Y.), who placed 17th overall in the field with a combined score of 165 (87-78). The team is back in action on Saturday when they compete at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst.

 

RIDING

The Lyons are now idle until April 30 when they compete at the 2015 IHSA National Championships, which will take place at the Eastern States Exposition (Big E) in West Springfield from April 30-May3.

 

TENNIS

Mount Holyoke finished third overall at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship last weekend. The Lyons saw sophomore Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) and first year Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India) named to the All-Tournament Team as MHC fell to #22 Vassar and Wellesley, before defeating Smith and Bryn Mawr. Mount Holyoke (13-9) returns to action on Saturday, when it concludes its 2014-15 season against Roger Williams at home at 10:30am. 

 

ROWING

The Lyons were in action on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, competing against Clark, Simmons, UMass-Lowell and the University of Vermont. MHC's varsity eight boat finished fourth overall, while the novice eight was second in its race. Mount Holyoke is back in the water next Saturday when it travels to New London, Conn., for a race against Coast Guard.
