Kuenning Garners Lyon of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – A record sweeping weekend earned sophomore Anne Kuenning this week’s Lyon of the Week honors. The Bow, N.H., native earned a record trifecta in the backstroke events at WPI’s Gompei Invitational, helping MHC to fifth among 12 teams at this year’s meet.

Kuenning, who finished top-6 in seven of nine events, placed third in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:09.25. That mark topped the previous school record of 2:12.39 set by Lauren Williams '14 in 2011. She was also fifth in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:01.42 and the 50-back with a mark of 28.69.

In the relay events, she helped the 400-medley foursome to fourth overall with a time of 4:09.80. Her 100-back leg of the event was a school record time of 59.89, eclipsing Williams’ mark of 1:00.63 from last season. Kuenning then helped the 200-medley relay team to sixth in a time of 1:53.90. Her 50-back time of 28.36 marked her third school record, once again taking down Williams’ mark of 28.61.

Kuenning helped the 400-free relay (3:43.34) and 200-free relay (1:42.70) teams to sixth. She also swam in the 50-free (25.91) and 100-free (55.85) at the Gompei Invite.

It has been a solid season thus far for Kuenning, who has at least one victory in all four dual meets. She won the 100-back against Division II Assumption, grabbed wins in the 50-back against both Saint Joseph and Westfield State, while claiming the 100 and 200-back victories versus Western Connecticut State.

Mount Holyoke is now idle until 2015 when they return to the pool to face Clark and Wheaton in tri-meet action in Worcester. The meet, which will take place at Clark, begins at 12:30pm.
