Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 14th

 

RIDING

The Lyons are idle until May 1-4 when the squad heads to the IHSA National Championships, hosted at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa.

TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons had an outstanding effort last weekend, finishing fourth overall at the Smith College Invitational. MHC was paced by sophomore captain Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.), who won both the 100-m (12.48) and the 200-m (26.49) dashes. MHC returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin College. Action kicks off on Friday at 4pm and continues on Saturday at 11:30am.

LACROSSE

MHC went 1-1 last week, defeating Emerson (13-12 4OT) before falling at Springfield (21-15).  Junior captain Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) paced the effort, scoring 12 goals (6 in each game) with an assist, five ground balls, 21 draw controls and five caused turnovers. Mount Holyoke (7-6; 2-3 NEWMAC) wraps-up its 2014 regular season schedule with a pair of games this week. The Lyons play at Smith on Tuesday at 4:30pm and head to MIT on Saturday for a 1pm game. TENNIS

MHC (10-9) recorded a 2-2 record to finish third overall at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Bryn Mawr. The Lyons powered their way to victories over the host Owls (5-0) and Smith (5-0). Seniors AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.) and Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan) were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it closes out its 2013-14 campaign at home against Roger Williams (10:30am).

CREW

The Lyons posted an outstanding weekend on the water at Lake Quinsigamond last weekend. Competing on both Saturday and Sunday, MHC recorded a combined five victories, including two by the first varsity eight boat, which defeated conference-rivals Simmons and Clark during Sunday's race. Mount Holyoke returns to Lake Quinsigamond next weekend when it competes at the NEWMAC Championships. Action at this year's championship gets underway at 8:30am.

GOLF

The Lyons took to the links for the first time this spring, competing at the Vassar Invitational last weekend. MHC, which was paced by a fourth-place finish from junior captain Madi Mendiola (San Diego, Calif.), finished seventh overall at the event. Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it travels to Amherst to compete in the Jack Leaman Invitational. Day one will take place at Amherst, while day two is scheduled to be held at The Orchards, MHC's home course. Stay tuned to the website for updates.
