Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Feb. 9th

 

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons (6-4) posted a 165-133 victory over Smith in the final home meet of the season. MHC honored its senior class at the start, including Rachel Boynton (Northampton, Mass.), Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt.) and Rui Nozaki (Rio Rancho, N.M.). The Lyons return to action on February 19 when they head to Worcester to compete at the 2015 NEWMAC Championships, hosted by WPI. The meet begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday. BASKETBALL

The Lyons shouldered losses to Coast Guard (71-64) and Wheaton (57-43) in NEWMAC action last week. Senior forward Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass.) averaged 21.0 points and 11.5 rebounds to pace Mount Holyoke, including a game-best 25 points against Coast Guard. MHC (6-15; 3-9 NEWMAC) is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to MIT for a 7pm game. The Lyons close out the week with a 2pm contest at Wellesley on Saturday. SQUASH

Mount Holyoke (6-15) suffered an 8-1 loss to Amherst in its final home match of the season, but countered to go 2-1 at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday. The Lyons defeated both Smith (8-1) and Vassar (8-1), but fell in the title match to host Wellesley (7-2). MHC returns to action this weekend when it competes at the 2015 CSA National Team Championships. Action begins on Friday and runs through Sunday. Pairings and flights for all teams will be announced early next week.

 

TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons has a solid effort at the 2015 Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday. The meet, which is a multi-divisional, non-team scoring event, saw junior Camille Coklow finish fifth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.84. She also placed 15th in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 27.27. Mount Holyoke returns to action Feb. 20 and 21, when it competes at the Division III New England Championships. The event, which begins on Friday and runs through Saturday, will be hosted by Smith College.

 

RIDING

Mount Holyoke were idle last week, but return to action on February 21st when they resume Regional action at the UMass Show.
