Junior Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) earned her second straight National All-America honor last week, finishing eighth overall in the 400-individual medley at the 2015 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas. She also placed 18th in the 1650-freestyle and was 26th in the 200-individual medley to close out her junior season.
The Lyons went 1-1 during their spring trip to Florida, falling to #3 Bowdoin (15-6) before defeating Concordia (16-5). Junior Julia Bell (Longmeadow, Mass.) had eight goals and two assists for 10 points during that span, including the 200th point of her MHC career. Bell becomes just the fourth player in program history to hit that milestone. Mount Holyoke (3-3) is back in action on Wednesday when it opens NEWMAC play at Emerson (6pm). The Lyons competed last weekend at the Wesleyan Spring Invitational, which was held indoors due to the facility conditions outside. First year Sunny Shan (Cupertino, Calif.) had a solid effort, finishing seventh in both the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter run. The Lyons will be idle this weekend as their home meet was cancelled due to facility conditions. The squad returns to action on April 4 when they are scheduled to compete once again at Wesleyan (11am).
The Lyons was in action during their training trip to Port St. Lucie, Fla., last week. MHC posted a win against Hamilton College, while also taking on Liberty League-rival William Smith. Mount Holyoke is set to open its full spring schedule on April 11-12 when it plays in the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
The Mount Holyoke riding team was idle last week, but returns to action on on Saturday with the final regular season show at UMass. That will be followed by Regionals the next day at Biscuit Hill Farm.
Mount Holyoke had a fantastic spring trip last week, posting victories over University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (6-3) and the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamón (7-2). Several players had outstanding efforts, including junior Margaux Holloschutz, first year Ishita Tibrewal and sophomore Alexa Colas, who all went 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 at doubles on the week. The Lyons (9-7) are back in action on Saturday when they host Connecticut College at 10:30am.
The Lyons rowing team had a strong training trip to Georgia and South Carolina last week. Due to conditions on the Connecticut River, the planned regatta on Sunday, March 29 has been cancelled. The special boat dedication, in honor of long-time head coach Jeanne Friedman, will go on as planned. The dedication is set for Sunday at 11am at the MHC Boathouse.
