RIDING

MHC concluded the 2013 portion of its season in fine fashion, winning the Holiday Tournament of Champions, hosted by Centenary College on Saturday. The Lyons beat out 24 other teams to claim this year's title, aided by 10 finishes in the top-five, including a victory in Intermediate Fences from junior Jess Murray (East Longmeadow, Mass.). The Lyons return to action after the holiday break on January 25th at the 2014 Winter Tournament of Champions, hosted by the University of Mary Washington in Virginia.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons swimming & diving team finished fourth overall of nine teams at the 2013 Gompei Invitational, hosted by WPI. Sophomore Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) had an outstanding meet, finishing top-five in all nine events she competed, including four victories. Additionally, she achieved a school record in her 200-IM win, while posting NCAA B Cuts in both the 400-IM preliminary and finals wins. The Lyons (3-1; dual meet) return to action on January 10th at 1pm when they host both Wheaton and Clark at the MHC Natatorium. A live video link for that meet can be found at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wswimdive/2013-14/schedule.

SQUASH

The #21 squash team posted a 4-0 mark last week with victories against #25 William Smith (9-0), #22 Wellesley (6-3), #34 Smith (9-0) and #20 Wesleyan (5-4) during action at the Wesleyan Round Robin. Senior Katrina Intal (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the way, going 4-0 during the weekend. Mount Holyoke (5-2) returns to action on January 11 when it hosts Middlebury at the MHC Squash Courts for a 2pm match.  (1-2) is back on the court this weekend when it competes at the Weselyan Round Robin.

BASKETBALL

MHC fell to Smith (71-38) and MIT (47-32) in NEWMAC action last week. Junior Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass.) paced the offense, averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Mount Holyoke (3-4; 1-4 NEWMAC) is now idle until December 29 when it squares off against Oneonta State at the San Juan Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico at 4pm. The Lyons will then face Westfield State the next day at 2pm.

TRACK & FIELD

Under the direction of 27th-year head coach Tina Lee, the Mount Holyoke indoor track & field team kicked off their 2013-14 campaign on Saturday at the non-team scoring Smith Winter Classic. Several athletes had outstanding efforts on the day, including senior Naomi Miller (Augusta, Maine), who finished third in the 600-meter run. The Lyons return to action on January 18th when they open the 2014 portion of their schedule at the Wesleyan Invitational at 11am.
