Chen Garners Lyon of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Amy Chen is this week’s recipient of the Lyon of the Week award. A member of the tennis team, she helped the Lyons post a 2-2 mark at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship last weekend – good for third overall.

A native of Hilo, Hawaii, Chen posted a 2-2 doubles record in her first Seven Sisters to help Mount Holyoke to third for the second straight season. Paired with classmate Alexa Colas, the duo suffered a pair of tough losses at the hands of nationally-ranked Vassar (2-6, 0-6) and Wellesley (0-6, 0-6), but rebounded on day two.

Chen and Colas battled to a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Smith’s Jordan Dubin and Ruth Yi, following that up with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Bryn Mawr’s Tirsa Delate and Mariam Haider. For her efforts, Chen was named to the Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team.

It has been a solid season for the former Hilo High School graduate, who is 12-12 in doubles action on the year, including a 3-2 mark from the first flight and a 9-8 mark at two. Chen has posted an 8-10 mark with partner Sarah Anischik, going 1-0 at first and 7-8 in the second flight. She is also 1-0 at two with Ishitia Tibrewal and owns a 3-2 record this season with Colas.

Chen is also 1-3 in singles matches this season. Her victory came in the sixth position, a 6-0, 6-1 win over Colby-Sawyer’s Marissa Ulmer. One of her losses was during international play as she shouldered a 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (8-10) loss to the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez’s Ediza Logarev.

Mount Holyoke (13-9) returns to action for its final contest of the season on Saturday when it welcomes Roger Williams at 10:30am.
