Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 18th

RIDING

Mount Holyoke was idle this past week, but returns to action May 5-8 when it competes at this year's IHSA National Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.

TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke saw its 4x100 relay team finish second as the team placed fourth overall at the Springfield College Outdoor Meet last weekend. In addition, first year Donari Yahzid (Atlanta, Ga.) finished second in the long jump. The Lyons return to action next weekend when they head to Maine to compete in the Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin College. Competition gets underway Friday with the Heptathlon and runs through Saturday.

LACROSSE

The Lyons went 1-1 last week, defeating Coast Guard (17-3) and falling to MIT (20-10). In a week of outstanding efforts, MHC saw senior captain and attack Julia Bell (Longmeadow, Mass.) reached a major milestone, becoming just the second player in program history to record 200 career goals. Mount Holyoke (2-9; 1-5 NEWMAC) concludes its home season on Wednesday, hosting #7 Amherst at 6:30pm. The game will mark Senior Day for the Lyons four seniors. Mount Holyoke wraps-up the week on Saturday in a 1pm game at Wellesley. Fans can follow MHC games live this season at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wlax/2015-16/schedule.

TENNIS

Mount Holyoke closed out its 2015-16 season last week with victories over Gordon (7-2) and Endicott (6-3). Senior captains Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Michelle Cai (Hong Kong, China) were honored for their outstanding four-year careers during the finale against the Gulls. MHC concluded its season with a 14-9 record.

ROWING

The Lyons saw its race at Coast Guard on Saturday cancelled due to high wind and white cap conditions. Mount Holyoke now preps for Saturday's NEWMAC Championship, which gets underway with the novice eight race at 8:30am. Last season, the Lyons were seventh at the conference's biggest race.

GOLF

Mount Holyoke finished eighth at the Jack Leaman Invitational last weekend, led by a third-place finish from junior captain June Conti (Amenia, N.Y.). MHC is back in action this weekend when it hosts the 2016 Liberty League Championship at The Orchards Golf Club. Action begins on Saturday at 9am and concludes on Sunday.
