Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Mar. 3rd

 

RIDING

The Lyons posted victory last weekend, hosting their final regular season home show. MHC beat out six other schools and maintained a strong lead in the regional standings. Leading the way were first year Bridget Finnerty (Baltimore, Md.), who received High Point honors and senior captain Lexie Lohrer (Carlisle, Mass.), who was Reserve High Point Rider. Mount Holyoke is back in action on Saturday when it co-hosts the Sycamore Show in Amherst.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The NCAA has announced the official psych sheets for the upcoming Division III Championship and sophomore Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) has been selected. She will compete in three events during this year's meet, which will be held from March 19-22. Pruden will swim in the 200-IM, the 400-IM and the 1650-free. Currently, she is ranked sixth in Division III in the 400-IM after posting a NEWMAC and school record time of 4:25.03 at the NEWMAC Championships in February. More information will follow in a separate release this week.

SQUASH

The #23 squash team (10-12) wrapped up its season as two student-athletes competed at the CSA Individual National Championships. Senior captain Randima Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka) advanced to the semifinals of the Second Round Consolations in Holleran Draw, while sophomore Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt) also made it to the consolation round.

TRACK & FIELD

Select members of the squad will return to action on March 7 at the ECAC Championships in Boston.

LACROSSE

Junior captain Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) scored a game-best four goals, but the Lyons fell 15-8 at Skidmore in their season opener last Saturday. Mount Holyoke (0-1) returns to action on Tuesday in a 4:30pm game at Bridgewater State. Live stat and video links can be found HERE. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday at New England College for a 1pm contest.

TENNIS

The Lyons opened their spring schedule on Satuday, falling to Bates by a 7-2 margin. MHC was paced by junior Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn.), who gutted out a big super tiebreaker victory in the fourth flight. MHC returns to action on Saturday, March 29 when it faces Colby-Sawyer in a neutral site match to be held at Smith College (10:30am).
