Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Nov. 24th

RIDING

The Lyons posted a dominant effort in their final show of the fall season, capturing blue ribbons in 19 of 23 classes to win their home show and increase their regional lead to 38 points. MHC was led by senior Abby Raucher (Easthampton, Mass.), who won in Open Fences and Open Flat, while also being named the High Point Rider.

 

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons posted a 187-80 win against Western Connecticut State last week. MHC was paced by junior Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.), who won four events, including setting a new school record in the 200-breaststroke. The Lyons (3-1) now idle through the holiday break, but returns to action on Saturday, December 6 when it competes at the Gompei Invitational, hosted by WPI. Action runs through Sunday.

 

SQUASH

The Lyons were idle last week and return to the courts on December 3 when they host Smith at 6:30pm.

 

BASKETBALL

The Lyons suffered several tough losses last week, falling to Worcester State, #2 Amherst and Farmingdale State. MHC was paced over the stretch by senior guard Kate Karraker (Morgantown, W.V.), who notched 52 points, including a game-best 24 against Farmingdale. MHC (1-4) opens its home schedule on Tuesday, hosting Westfield State at 5:30pm in the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.
