Purpose of SAAC at Mount Holyoke College

The Mount Holyoke College SAAC provides student-athletes with the opportunity to shape the landscape of intercollegiate athletics through its work at the national, conference, and institutional levels. The purpose of the MHC SAAC is to:

  • Act as the voice of the student-athletes in the governance of intercollegiate athletics.

  • Promote and streamline effective communication between athletics administration and student-athletes.

  • Disseminate information to the broader campus and athletics community.

  • Provide feedback and insight to the athletics administration and sport governing bodies into student-athlete concerns, ideas, and accomplishments.

  • Generate a student-athlete voice within the campus athletics department formulation of policies.

  • Build a sense of community and unity among student-athletes on campus.

  • Promote a positive student-athlete image on campus and within the community.

  • Organize community service efforts and create connections with the broader community.

  • Solicit and communicate student-athlete responses to proposed conference and NCAA legislation.

  • Create and implement programs that encourage academic achievement, wellness, and community relations within athletics.

  • Create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees (e.g., student government).

Membership of Mount Holyoke College’s SAAC
SAAC at MHC is composed of two student-athletes from each of the 13 varsity athletic programs, a student-athlete liaison(s) for the student government association, and student-athlete CBL (Career Based Learning) liaison(s). For those teams who have student-athletes currently serving on the SAAC executive board, they will appoint separate team representatives. Each SAAC member serves for a one year term, from January-December, and is eligible to serve multiple terms.

Each SAAC representative serves on one of five subcommittees. All SAAC subcommittees have a Chair and each E-Board member oversees a subcommittee.
