Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Feb. 1st

RIDING

The Lyons were back in action last weekend at the Winter II Tournament of Champions. MHC finished fifth in the event, powered by a number of solid rides, while in the overall series, the Lyons were third behind SCAD and Goucher College. Mount Holyoke is now idle until February 27th when it travels to Hadley to compete in the Co-Hosted Show.

 

SWIMMING & DIVING

MHC pulled out a nail-biting 153-140 victory over Simmons College in the final regular season home dual meet of the year. The Lyons were led by several outstanding finishes, including a pair of individual victories by junior Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass.). The meet also marked the final home dual meet for the Lyons seven graduating seniors, who were honored in a pre-meet ceremony. Mount Holyoke (7-2 dual) returns to the pool on Saturday when it travels to Northampton to take on Smith College at 1pm.

 

BASKETBALL

The Lyons suffered a loss in their only game last week against conference-leading WPI. Mount Holyoke (0-18; 0-10 NEWMAC) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Coast Guard at 7pm. The Lyons will then close out the week on Saturday, traveling to Emerson for a 1pm tip-off. SQUASH

Mount Holyoke suffered an 0-3 week, falling to #28 Connecticut College, #12 Brown University and #9 Drexel University. shouldered tough losses to William Smith and Tufts last week. The Lyons (4-13) return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Amherst for a 6pm contest. MHC then travels to Vassar on Saturday to take part in the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship. The Lyons will face Wellesley (12pm), Smith (1:30pm) and the host Brewers (4pm). To view the Seven Sisters Championship page, click HERE.

 

TRACK & FIELD

MHC got a number of strong performances on Saturday as it finished eighth overall at the 2016 Massasoit Invitational, hosted by Springfield College. Leading the Lyons effort on the day was The 4x800 meter relay team of senior Elizabeth DeLeon, sophomore Mia Barnes, first year Corrin Moss and sophomore Sunny Shan. The foursome posted a time of 10:19.38, which outpaced the relay squads from Eastern Connecticut State, Trinity and Springfield. Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Middletown, Conn., to compete at the Wesleyan Invitational.
