Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 6th

LACROSSE

The Lyons suffered an 0-2 week, shouldering losses to Wheaton and #20 Springfield. Despite the losses, senior captain Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) recorded six goals, including the 200th point of her career. She becomes just the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone. Mount Holyoke (4-6; 1-3 NEWMAC) is back in action this week with two conference games. The Lyons travel to Coast Guard on Wednesday (7pm) before hosting MIT on Saturday (12pm). TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons saw junior Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.) win the 100-meter dash as MHC competed at the 2015 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet at Fitchburg State University. Mount Holyoke, which was backed by a number of strong efforts last weekend, is back in action on Saturday when it competes at the Smith Invitational (11am). 

 

GOLF

The Lyons are set to open their full spring schedule this weekend, competing at the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Saturday and Sunday.

 

RIDING

The Mount Holyoke riding team won the 2015 Zone 1 Championship on Saturday, sealing its bid to the IHSA National Championships later this month. Among the top performances included seniors Anne Waldo and Jess Murray, who both qualified for Nationals in Intermediate Fences with their first and second place finishes, respectively. The Lyons are now idle until April 30 when they compete at the 2015 IHSA National Championships, which will take place at the Eastern States Exposition (Big E) in West Springfield from April 30-May3.

 

TENNIS

Mount Holyoke had another outstanding effort last week, defeating Colby-Sawyer by a 9-0 margin. Sophomore Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) had an outstanding effort, helping MHC get a win in second doubles before adding a singles victory of her own in the sixth flight. The Lyons (11-7) return to the court on Saturday when they open action at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championships, hosted by Smith College. MHC opens against Vassar at 10am on Saturday at the MHC Field House and will then face Wellesley at Smith at 3pm. Sunday's action will see the Lyons square off against Smith at the MHC Field House at 9am, before facing Bryn Mawr in Northampton at 1:30pm. 

 

ROWING

The Lyons hit the water in Medford, Mass., on Saturday, competing at the Tufts Regatta. The varsity eight finished fourth overall, while the novice eight posted victory over the host Jumbos. Mount Holyoke continues its season next weekend when it heads to Worcester to compete on Lake Quinsigamond. Action begins on Sunday when the Lyons take on Clark, UVM, Simmons, Union, Hamilton.
