Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Mar. 19th

LACROSSE

Mount Holyoke headed West for Spring Break, traveling to Colorado for a pair of non-conference games. The Lyons shouldered tough losses to Rensselaer and Colorado College during their journey. Senior captain Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass.) had a strong effort on the week with two goals, three assists and five draw control wins. MHC (1-5) opens NEWMAC play at home on Saturday, taking on Wheaton at 12pm on the Turf Field. UPDATE: Due to inclement weather in the Northeast for Wednesday, March 21st, the Lyons game at Salve Regina has been postponed. A make-up date is being worked out and will be announced soon!

 

RIDING

Mount Holyoke is back in the arena on Saturday when it competes at the UMass Show, hosted by Hampshire College.


SWIMMING & DIVING

Mount Holyoke sophomore Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) makes her NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship debut on Thursday, opening competition on the 1-meter board at Nationals. The 3-meter event will take place on Saturday. Nemivant becomes the first diver since 2006 to represent the Lyons at Nationals. Live links for this year's Championship will be available soon.

ROWING

The Lyons competed in several scrimmages last week as they spent their Spring Training Trip in South Carolina. MHC is expected to return to the water on Saturday when it competes at Amherst on the Connecticut River. The first race is scheduled for 10:15am.


TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke is back in action this weekend when it opens the outdoor schedule at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. Action is expected to get underway at 11:00am.


TENNIS

The Lyons had a busy slate of action last week during its Spring Training Trip to Orlando. Despite a number of hard-fought efforts, MHC fell to Colby-Sawyer, University of Texas-Tyler and Haverford. Mount Holyoke (3-7) is idle this week, but is back in action on March 31 when it opens NEWMAC action in a 2pm match at Emerson College.

GOLF

Mount Holyoke took to the links for the first time in 2018 last week, competing in Florida for their Spring Training Trip. MHC shouldered a 365-339 loss to Vassar on Wednesday, and then finished third overall on Friday in a match against Vassar and Hamilton. The Lyons are now idle until April 14th when it travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to compete in the two-day Vassar Invitational.
