WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its year-end honors and four Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were named to the conference's All-Sportsmanship Team in their respective sports.
The award, which was established by the NEWMAC in 2016-17, is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
Recognized from cross country was sophomore Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional), who had a number of solid performances this season. Among those included the NEWMAC Championships in October, crossing the line in 22:24 for her fastest finish of the season thus far. Additionally, Dillon also ran a 22:39 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational and a 22:45 at the James Earley Invitational.
Senior captain and forward Sophie Perekslis (Millerton, N.Y./Berkshire School (MA)) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team in field hockey. Named a NEWMAC All-Conference First Team selection on Monday, she started all 18 games for the Lyons in 2017, leading the team in goals (16), points (34), shots (62), shots on goal (48), and game-winners (5). Perekslis scored at least two points in all but five games and on three separate occasions, tallied two goals.
Garnering Sportsmanship honors for the second straight season in soccer was senior captain and midfielder Suz Rose (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional). A starter in all 18 games for the Lyons during the 2017 campaign, she totaled five points on one goal and three assists. Rose also posted nine shots, four being on goal. Highlighting her efforts this season was a goal and assist effort as MHC played to a 3-3 draw against Bay Path.
Also repeating as the Sportsmanship Award honoree for her sport was volleyball junior outside hitter Isabell Linde (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Catholic). Playing in all 22 matches this season, Linde totaled a career-high 77 kills for the year. In addition to 167 digs, which were also a career-best, Linde added 17 service aces and 10 assists. Her dig totals on the season ranked third overall on the squad, while her aces mark was fourth overall.
