Preview photo for the Athletics Weekly Newsletter, the Lyons Tales.

RIDING

Mount Holyoke was in action at the 2017 Holiday Tournament of Champions event, hosted at the University of Findlay. It was another solid performance for the Lyons, which saw their two squads finish third and ninth, respectively. Highlighting the event was sophomore Franny Eremeeva (Northampton, Mass.), who was the High Collegiate Medal Reserve Champion. MHC has concluded its fall competition and will return to action on January 20 when it takes part in the Winter 1 Classic of the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Ohio University.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons returned to the pool last weekend, competing at the Hamilton College Invitational where they finished sixth overall. MHC was paced by junior Bri Groves (Reston, Va.), who captured two victories on the weekend. Mount Holyoke (1-3) is now idle until Thursday, January 11 when it travels to Clark to compete against the Cougars and Wheaton College (1pm). Fans can follow all the action live (when available) at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wswimdive/2017-18/schedule.

SQUASH

Mount Holyoke was back on the court on Saturday, posting an 8-1 victory over Northeastern University in neutral site action at Amherst. Junior Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka) was the first to finish for MHC, improving to 5-0 on the season with a win from the second spot on the ladder. The Lyons have concluded their 2017 schedule and will be back in action on January 12th at Wesleyan University at 3:00pm.

BASKETBALL

The Lyons opened the NEWMAC slate with tough losses to WPI and MIT. Junior captain Leah Hodges (New Haven, Conn.) notched a game-high 10 points in the opening game of the week to the Engineers. MHC (0-6); 0-2 NEWMAC) is back in action this week beginning Wednesday with a 7pm conference-tilt at Springfield. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday with a 1pm game at Mount Ida. Fans can follow all the action live (when available) at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wbkb/2017-18/schedule.

TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke opened its season in record setting fashion at the 2017 Smith Winter Classic. The day was highlighted by Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and sophomore Charleen Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) who each carved a spot in the Mount Holyoke record books. Wohlin broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles, posted a New England D3 Qualifying mark, while also finishing second, while Theroux competed as a pentathlete and saw her total score of 2,868 break a school record that had stood since 2004. It was also an NE D3 mark. The Lyons return to action on Saturday, competing at the Rhode Island College Invitational with action kicking off at 10am.
