The Lyons returned to action for the final time in 2017 at the NCAA New England Regional Championships on Saturday. Competing at the Gorham Country Club, MHC saw a number of strong efforts, paced by junior Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio), who was 144th overall in a 6k field that included 393 total runners. She posted a personal record time of 23:52.7 in the event. In addition to Moss, three other student-athletes achieved personal record runs at the event, while three more reached a season's best time.
Mount Holyoke earned its third straight show victory last weekend, grabbing 42 points for the win at the Amherst Show at Biscuit Hill Farm. Leading the charge for the Lyons was senior Mollie Kowalchik (Loveland, Ohio), who garnered overall high point rider honors. Classmate Anna Rzchowski (Madison, Wisc.) was named overall reserve high point rider, as well as the high point intermediate rider, while sophomore Emy McLaughlin (Portland, Maine) was the event's high point novice rider.
The Lyons were back in action at home last Saturday, shouldering a tough 157-139 loss to Westfield State. MHC saw a number of outstanding performances, including from sophomore Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who won both diving events. Highlighing her wins was an NCAA Regional Qualifiying mark of 257.50 points on the 1-meter board. Mount Holyoke (1-2) returns to action with its final home meet of the fall on Saturday at 1pm, hosting the Blue of Wellesley College. Mount Holyoke continued its winning ways last weekend, opening its home slate with a 9-0 victory over local-rival Smith College. The Lyons saw a number of outstanding efforts on the day, including first year Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass.), who cruised to an 11-5, 11-1, 11-1 victory from the fourth position on the ladder. MHC (3-0) returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Tufts University for a 12pm match against the Jumbos.
BASKETBALL
Under the direction of 14th-year head coach Michelle Scecina, the Lyons kick-off their 2017-18 campaign on Wednesday at home. MHC welcomes Worcester State to the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium for a 7pm tip-off. The Lyons will then take to the road on Saturday at the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament, facing Maine Maritime in the opener at 1pm. The winner of that contest will advance to the championship game on Sunday at 3pm against the winner of Curry vs. Pine Manor. Sunday's consolation game will begin at 1pm. Mount Holyoke returns four players from last year's squad, including junior captains Michaela Butin (Beverly, Mass.) and Leah Hodges (New Haven, Conn.), and will look to build success with seven newcomers.
