Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Jan. 29th

RIDING

Mount Holyoke concluded the four-part Tournament of Champions series last weekend, competing in South Carolina at the Winter II event. The Lyons saw one team place third, while the other was ninth. Overall for the series, Mount Holyoke garnered Reserve Champion honors after placing fourth at the Preseason, third at the Holiday, winning the Winter I and its most recent third place finish. Finishing strong was senior Maddy Skrak (Albuquerque, N.M.), who placed third overall in the high medal competition. MHC returns to competition when it travels to the University of Rhode Island for an invitational on February 10th.


SWIMMING & DIVING

Mount Holyoke was idle last week, but returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Simmons in the final home event of the season at 12pm. It will also mark Senior Day for the Lyons graduating seniors. SQUASH

Mount Holyoke shouldered tough road losses at Colby, Bowdoin and Bates last weekend. The Lyons (4-10) will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Smith College to take part in the 2018 Seven Sisters Championship. Action begins at 10am.


BASKETBALL

The Lyons suffered losses to Clark and Babson last week in conference action. shouldered a trio of losses last week in a split of conference and non-conference games. Senior Kate Rawson (Old Town, Maine) came off the bench to record a game-best six rebounds versus Babson, after recording a team-high five against the Cougars. MHC (0-19; 0-11 NEWMAC) returns to the court on Saturday when it hosts Wellesley at 1pm at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke was back in action last weekend at the non-team scoring Massasoit Classic at Springfield College. Junior captain Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa.) had solid performances in the shot put and weight throw, increasing her personal-best distance with each throw. MHC is back in action this weekend, beginning Friday with one competitor heading to the Tufts Cupid Challenge Pentathlon. The entire squad will be in action on Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational, set to begin at 10am.
