Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Mar. 26th

LACROSSE

Mount Holyoke shouldered a tough defeat at the hands of Wheaton in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. Senior captain Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass.) paced the offensive effort with three goals in the contest. MHC (1-6; 0-1 NEWMAC) returns to action on Saturday when it travels to MIT for a 1pm game against the Engineers. Fans can follow all the action live (when available) at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wlax/2017-18/schedule.  Additionally, the Lyons contest at Salve Regina, originally scheduled for March 21st will now be played on Thursday, April 5th at 6pm at Salve Regina.

RIDING

Mount Holyoke returned to the arena for their final regular season show on Saturday, taking top honors at the Hampshire College Show. Senior Mollie Kowalchik (Loveland, Ohio) had an outstanding effort, earning the show's high point rider honors. Additionally, she was named the overall high point rider for Region III and will and will compete as the Region III Cacchione Cup rider at the Zone 1 Championships. The Lyons return to action on Saturday when it competes at the Regional Championships. Overall, 18 MHC riders will compete for individual spots at zone finals. A total of 27 MHC rides will occur, split among every class from walk trot to open fences.


SWIMMING & DIVING

Mount Holyoke sophomore Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made her debut at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship last week. She finished 18th overall in the 1-meter event, following that up with a 20th-place mark in the 3-meter event. It was an outstanding effort for Nemivant, who became the first Lyons diver to compete at Nationals since the 2006 season.

ROWING

The Lyons returned to the water on Saturday, opening its spring slate against Amherst, Fairfield and Smith on the Connecticut River. MHC's varsity eight boat placed third, while the second varsity eight boat finished fourth in their race. Mount Holyoke returns to action on April 8th when it heads to Lake Quinsigamond to face WPI, Hamilton, Simmons, Bates, and Pacific Lutheran.


TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke was idle last week after pulling out of the Wesleyan Invitational, which was moved to an indoor meet. The Lyons look to open their outdoor slate on Saturday at the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University.


TENNIS

The Lyons (3-7) were idle this week, but return to the courts on Saturday when they open NEWMAC action in a 2pm match at Emerson College.

GOLF

Mount Holyoke was idle last week and will next be in action on April 14th when it travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to compete in the two-day Vassar Invitational.
