Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Sept. 25th

FIELD HOCKEY

The Lyons posted a 1-1 mark, besting Wesleyan (2-1) before falling to NEWMAC-rival, MIT (4-2) to close out action last week. Senior captain and forward Sophie Perekslis (Millerton, N.Y.) notched three of the Lyons four goals on the week, including both at MIT. Mount Holyoke (5-3; 1-1 NEWMAC) is back in action on Sunday when it welcomes 2nd-ranked Babson to the Turf Field at 2pm. SOCCER

Mount Holyoke suffered a pair of losses last week against Wesleyan (6-0) and at NEWMAC-foe, Wellesley (1-0). Junior goalie Amanda Manaster (Beverly Hills, Calif.) recorded 24 saves over the two-game span last week. MHC (2-6-0; 0-2-0 NEWMAC) returns home on Tuesday when it hosts Bay Path University at 6pm on the soccer field. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday, welcoming Springfield at 12pm. VOLLEYBALL

Mount Holyoke shouldered conference defeats to Coast Guard (3-1) and Emerson (3-0) last week. Sophomore Sasha Simine (Kitchener, Ont.) anchored the Lyons offense with a team-best 18 kills, while junior Jamesa Allen (Orlando, Fla.) had eight blocks for the defense. MHC (4-5; 0-4 NEWMAC) returns to the court on Tuesday when it travels to WPI for a 7pm match against the Engineers. The Lyons wrap-up the week with a 12pm match at MIT on Saturday. CROSS COUNTRY

Mount Holyoke returned to action last weekend, finishing 10th overall at the Codfish Bowl, hosted at Franklin Park in Boston. Junior Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio) placed 38th overall with a time of 20:54, which marked her fastest time ever on the Franklin Park course. The Lyons are now idle until October 7 when they compete at the James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University. Action begins at 12pm.

 

GOLF

The Lyons hosted the 2017 MHC Invitational at The Orchards last weekend, finishing ninth overall in the field of 18 teams. Sophomore Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.) led the way for MHC, finishing 18th overall with a combined score of 159 (80-79). Mount Holyoke is back in action this weekend when it travels to Vermont to take part in the 2017 Middlebury College Invitational. Action kicks-off on Saturday at 12:00pm and continues on Sunday at 9:00am.


RIDING

Mount Holyoke is idle until October 14 when it travels to the Williams College Show.

 

TENNIS

The Lyons were idle last week after action at the 2017 Tennis Hall of Fame Tournament was postponed due to adverse weather conditions from Hurricane Jose. MHC is back in action this week with a pair of competitions beginning Friday at 9am as select members of the team head to Williams College to take part in the ITA New England Regionals. MHC (1-0) will see the rest of the squad head to Newport, R.I., on Friday to compete in the rescheduled Tennis Hall of Fame Tournament, which begins at 1pm. ITA's will continue on Saturday and Sunday as well.
