WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards for the period ending April 8 and the Mount Holyoke College rowing team was honored. The Lyons varsity eight crew was named the conference's Boat of the Week following a strong performance against several of Division III's top teams last Sunday.

In an event that featured four of the top-ranked teams in the nation on Lake Quinsigamond, including #1 Bates and #5 Hamilton, the Lyons varsity eight boat powered its way to victory in the Petite Final. MHC's crew opened the day finishing third in its heat behind the nationally-ranked Bobcats and Continentals. The Lyons advanced into the Petite Final, earning the win in a time of 7:19.8 to best Simmons (7:22.9) and Clark (7:46.3).

The Lyons varsity eight boat was comprised of coxswain Zoe Zelkowitz, Elizabeth Hazen (S), Halee Mahoney (7), Hannah LeBlanc (6), Emma Taylor (5), Sharlow Hitchcock (4), Ariya Lawson (3), Lainie Laronde (2) and Mira Rosenkotz (B).

Sunday's effort marked just the second race of the Spring season for Mount Holyoke, which finished third behind Fairfield and Amherst to open 2018 on March 24. During the fall campaign, MHC was fourth overall at the Seven Sisters Championship, which included Seven Sisters All-Regatta Team honors for Lawson and Paloma Cruz. The Lyons also raced to 24th overall at the 53rd Annual Head of the Charles Regatta.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Sunday (4/15) when it returns to Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday when it races against the University of Rochester, Simmons and host, Clark University.
