Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Oct. 23rd

HALL OF FAME 2017

The Lyons Athletics Department was proud to induct four new members into the Mount Holyoke Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday. This year's incredible class included former golf coach Bob Bontempo, volleyball/basketball player, Michelle D. Johannes '93, basketball player Jessica Justice Vogt '03 and tennis/basketball/softball player, Jean Osachuk. Congratulations Class of 2017!

FIELD HOCKEY

The Lyons went 1-1 last week, besting Western New England (4-3) before falling at Smith (2-0) in NEWMAC action. Junior midfielder Kristina Ramsden (Florence, Mass.) scored two of the Lyons goals in the win over the Golden Bears. Mount Holyoke (10-5; 4-3 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Westfield State in the final regular season home contest of 2017. Game time is 7pm on the Turf Field. The Lyons close out the week, and the regular season, on Saturday at 1pm. SOCCER

Mount Holyoke shouldered an 0-2-0 record last week, falling at Rensselaer (5-0) and Wheaton (4-2). Sophomore forward Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass.) scored both goals in the battle of the Lyons. MHC (2-12-2; 0-7-1 NEWMAC) returns to the field on Tuesday when it travels to Smith for a 3:30pm match against the Pioneers. The Lyons close out the regular season on Saturday at home, welcoming Babson at 1pm. VOLLEYBALL

Mount Holyoke went 2-1 last week, falling to Clark (3-0) before bouncing back with wins over Baruch (3-0) and Westfield State (3-1). The Lyons were paced by junior middle hitter Jamesa Allen (Orlando, Fla.), who posted 35 kills on the week, including a career-high 21 strikes in the win against Baruch. MHC (10-10; 1-7 NEWMAC) is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Smith for a 7pm match against the Pioneers. The Lyons close out the week and the regular season at home on Saturday, welcoming Babson at 1pm. Due to technical difficulties, the match on Saturday will not be webcasted, but live stats will still be available. CROSS COUNTRY

Mount Holyoke was idle last weekend, but returns to action on Sunday when it competes at the 2017 NEWMAC Championship, hosted at Franklin Park in Boston.


RIDING

Mount Holyoke headed to Hadley to compete in the UMass Show on Saturday. The Lyons finished third overall in the event, powered by blue ribbons from eight different riders. MHC, which continues to hold the points lead in its region after the first two weeks of the regular season, are back in action on Saturday. The Lyons will host the first of two home shows of the season at the MHC Equestrian Center beginning at 9am. The event can be seen live via webcast by clicking HERE.


ROWING

Mount Holyoke returned to the Charles River on Sunday, taking part in the 53rd Annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The Lyons were Bow 25 in the collegiate eight event, finishing 24th overall with a total time of 18:27.714. MHC is right back on the Charles River next Sunday when it competes at the 2017 Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Simmons College. Action gets underway at 9:30am.
