Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Oct. 1st

FIELD HOCKEY

The Lyons shouldered a tough loss to #2 Babson (3-1) last week in NEWMAC action. MHC was paced by senior captain Kathryn Rawson (Old Town, Maine), who banked in her third goal of the season against the Beavers. Mount Holyoke (5-4; 1-2 NEWMAC) is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts conference-rival Springfield at 7pm. The Lyons conclude the week on Saturday with a 12pm match at Wellesley. SOCCER

Mount Holyoke went 0-1-1 last week, tying Bay Path (3-3) before falling to Springfield (7-0). Three different players scored for the Lyons, including senior forward Sara Sanaú Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain) who added her team-leading sixth tally of the year. MHC (2-7-1; 0-3-0 NEWMAC) returns home on Tuesday when it hosts the Coast Guard Academy at 6pm on the soccer field. The Lyons close out the week on Friday, traveling to MIT for a 7pm contest. VOLLEYBALL

Mount Holyoke went 1-1 in NEWMAC action last week. The Lyons defeated WPI (3-2) behind a game-high 15-kill effort from sophomore Sasha Simine (Kitchener, Ont.), but later fell to #14 MIT (3-0) to close out the week. MHC (5-6; 1-5 NEWMAC) is back on the court on Tuesday when it travels to Anna Maria for a 7pm match against the AMCats. The Lyons conclude the week on Thursday with a 7pm home contest against Framingham State. CROSS COUNTRY

Mount Holyoke was idle last weekend, but is back on the course on Saturday when it competes at the James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University. Action begins at 12pm.

 

GOLF

The Lyons were in action at the Middlebury Invitational last weekend, finishing sixth overall in the field of 12 teams. Pacing the effort on the links was sophomore Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.), who rallied to finish 19th overall after improving by nine strokes in the Final Round. Mount Holyoke is back in action this weekend when it travels to Williamstown, Mass., to take part in the 2017 Williams Fall Invitational. Action begins at 12pm at Taconic Golf Club, continuing on Sunday (9am).


RIDING

Mount Holyoke is idle until October 14 when it travels to the Williams College Show.

 

TENNIS

The Lyons saw the team divide and compete last week, taking advantage of opportunities to play at the 2017 Tennis Hall of Fame Tournament, as well as the 2017 ITA New England Regionals. Senior Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India) and junior Madison Rosen (Portland, Ore.) highlighted the efforts for MHC, advancing to the semifinals of the doubles action with a win over a duo from Nichols College. MHC (1-0) is back in action this week when it hosts the College of the Holy Cross on Thursday at 6pm. Action is likely to be split between the outdoor courts and the indoor field house.
