HARVARD, Mass. (Feb. 26, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College squash team suffered a 6-3 setback to Columbia University today at the College Squash Association National Championships. Sophomore Randima Ranaweera, senior Shara Robertson and sophomore Shaheen Madraswala each collected wins for the Lyons, who closed out the season with an overall record of 17-11.

CSA Logo Mount Holyoke entered the weekend seeded sixth amongst Kurtz Cup (B Division) competitors. After falling 8-1 to third-seeded Brown University on Friday, the Lyons bounced back with a thrilling 6-3 triumph over seventh-seeded Hamilton College yesterday. In doing so, they tied the program record for wins in a season and punched their ticket to today's Consolation Championship.

Ranaweera put the finishing touches on her perfect weekend with a 3-0 victory over Alisha Maity at the top of the lineup. Mount Holyoke also received outstanding performances from Robertson and Madraswala, who each came out on top 3-1. After splitting the first two games of her number two match against Katie Quan, Robertson rolled in games four and five. Meanwhile, Madraswala battled back from an early deficit to take the final three games of her number three contest against Kate Calihan.

Columbia's (6-11) wins came from Liz Chu, Monica Stone, Dheeya Somaiya, Skylar Dickey, Annie Tickell and Morgan Strauss.

As a result of its performance this weekend, Mount Holyoke will finish the season ranked 14th in the nation. Ranaweera and Robertson will represent the Lyons at the CSA Individual Championships next weekend. The event is slated to take place at Amherst College from Friday through Sunday.
