Lyons Game Day Central: Squash Set to Host Pioneer Valley Invitational

SETTING THE SCENE: The 2012 Pioneer Valley Invitational will feature 49 matches between 25 of the top teams from around the region. Both men's and women's squads are slated to compete in the event, which will begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday. Mount Holyoke will open with matches against Hamilton College (9:30 a.m.) and Yale University (11:00 a.m.) on Saturday before closing things out against Columbia University (9:30 a.m.) and Haverford College (2:30 p.m.) on Sunday. Over the past five seasons, the Lyons have posted a 17-2 record at the tournament. This year's event will take place on the campuses of Amherst College and Smith College in addition to Mount Holyoke.

MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (6-4) saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a 7-2 setback to Middlebury College in its first outing of the new year on Sunday. Randima Ranaweera and Shaheen Madraswala both came up with victories for the Lyons. Madraswala has been hot of late, earning wins in each of her last five outings. The sophomore has posted an overall record of 8-2 thus far this season. Mount Holyoke has also received solid production from Ranaweera, who has gone 7-2 at the top of the lineup. Newcomer Dachelle Parker has prevailed in all five of her matches. Meanwhile, Kathryn Brummer, Katrina Intal and Paulina Rojek have recorded five wins apiece. The Lyons will enter the weekend ranked 13th in the latest CSA National Poll.

NEXT UP: The Lyons are slated to compete in the Maine Event with matches against Colby College, George Washington University, Bates College and Bowdoin College next weekend.
