Squash Uses Home Court Advantage to Take Down Wesleyan

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Dec. 8, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College squash team used home court advantage to pick up an 8-1 triumph over Wesleyan University this evening. In the process, the Lyons ran their winning streak to four and improved to 6-3 on the year. They entered the match ranked 13th in the latest CSA National Rankings.

Sophomore Randima Ranaweera, senior Shara Robertson, sophomore Shaheen Madraswala, sophomore Katrina Intal, junior Kathryn Brummer, senior Marie Ozanne and senior Paulina Rojek each came out on top 3-0 for the Lyons, who have now defeated Wesleyan 18 times in a row.

Mount Holyoke's remaining point came from first year Kristina Myren. After dropping the first game of her number five match against junior Grace Zimmerman, she battled back to claim a 3-1 win.

Wesleyan got on the board with a 3-0 victory by sophomore Kar-Anne Tan in the number eight contest. The Cardinals entered the match ranked 19th in the nation.
 
Both squads will take the next month off before returning to action in 2012.

Mount Holyoke (6-3) will get the new year underway with a pivotal match against 12th-ranked Middlebury College on Sunday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. Last season, the Lyons upset the Panthers in the opening round of the CSA National Championships.

Wesleyan (8-4) will face off against Connecticut College on Saturday, January 14 at the Yale University Round Robin.
