SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Feb. 2, 2012) – Junior Kathryn Brummer has earned the College Squash Association Player of the Week award after leading Mount Holyoke College to a 3-1 record at the Maine Event last weekend. The captain came out on top in all four of her matches at the number six position, dropping just four games in the process.

Brummer opened up her weekend with a convincing 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-5) triumph over Colby College's Liz Brehman on Saturday. After topping the Mules 8-1, Mount Holyoke travelled to Bates College for a pivotal showdown against 14th-ranked George Washington University. With postseason positioning at stake, the 13th-ranked Lyons came through in a big way, winning by a score of 7-2. Brummer was once again impressive, topping Tiffany Hingley 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 14-12).

The junior proceeded to tack on two more wins on Sunday. Her first came in Mount Holyoke's 7-2 setback to Bates. After dropping the first two games of her match against Chloe Mitchell, Brummer rallied back to take the next two by scores of 11-7 and 11-9. She then sealed things with a thrilling 11-9 victory in the fifth. The captain put the finishing touches on her brilliant weekend with a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 12-10) triumph over Bowdoin College's Sara Wlodarczyk. As a team, the Lyons prevailed 8-1.

Brummer has gone 12-5 this season and owns a career record of 28-18. She picked up her sixth win in a row last night in her team's 9-0 victory over Connecticut College.

Mount Holyoke (12-6) is slated to participate in the Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday at Vassar College. The Lyons have captured top honors at the tournament in each of the past five seasons. They will square off against Wellesley College (12:00 p.m.), Smith College (1:30 p.m.) and Vassar (4:00 p.m.).
