Squash Splits Pair at Wesleyan Round Robin

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Dec. 3, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College squash team split a pair of matches at the Wesleyan University Round Robin today. After dropping a 6-3 decision to Brown University, the Lyons rebounded with a 9-0 triumph over William Smith College. Sophomores Randima Ranaweera and Shaheen Madraswala posted two wins apiece to lead the way.

The Lyons came up just short in their bid to upset Brown in their first match of the weekend. From top to bottom, their lineup featured Ranaweera, senior Shara Robertson, Madraswala, sophomore Katrina Intal, first year Kristina Myren, junior Kathryn Brummer, senior Marie Ozanne, sophomore Elyse Taylor and senior Paulina Rojek.

Ranaweera, Madraswala and Rojek each rolled to 3-1 victories. Meanwhile, Robertson and Intal suffered heartbreaking 3-2 setbacks, and Brummer fell 3-1.

Mount Holyoke bounced back with its sixth straight triumph over William Smith in the nightcap. Ranaweera, Robertson, Madraswala, Intal, Brummer, Taylor, first year Dachelle Parker, first year Samantha Rosado and senior Sarah Moore each posted shutouts.

The Lyons will return to Wesleyan for two more matches tomorrow. After facing off against Smith College at 11:00 a.m., they will take on Colgate University at 2:00 p.m.
