Madraswala Takes Home College Squash Player of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Dec, 14, 2011) – Sophomore Shaheen Madraswala has earned the College Squash Association Player of the Week award after leading Mount Holyoke College to a convincing 8-1 triumph over Wesleyan University last Thursday.

In the process, the Lyons ran their winning streak to four and improved to 6-3 on the year. They entered the match ranked 13th in the CSA National Rankings.

Madraswala dropped just 11 points in her 3-0 triumph over Annie Maxwell. With the win, she improved to 7-2 this season and 26-7 in her career. She is currently ranked among the top 100 players in the nation. The majority of her matches have been at the number three position.

The sophomore posted a perfect 4-0 mark at the Wesleyan Round Robin in the preceding weekend. She was at her best on Saturday, when she picked up a 3-1 victory over Brown University's Mina Shakarshy. After splitting the first two games, she took the next two to seal things.

Madraswala added 3-0 wins over William Smith College's Ginny McDermott, Smith College's Joanne Poon and Colgate University's Courtney Burke.

Mount Holyoke (6-3) will get the new year underway with a pivotal match against 12th-ranked Middlebury College on Sunday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. Last season, the Lyons upset the Panthers in the opening round of the CSA National Championships. They finished the year ranked 12th in the nation with an overall record of 14-12.
