Squash Closes Out Pioneer Valley Invitational With Dominant Win Over Haverford

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 22, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College squash team closed out the 2012 Pioneer Valley Invitational with a convincing 9-0 triumph over Haverford College this afternoon. With the win, the Lyons improved to 8-5 on the year. They entered the weekend ranked 13th in the latest CSA National Rankings.


A total of 25 men's and women's squads from around the region competed in the annual tournament, which kicked off on Friday and concluded today. Over the course of the weekend, 45 matches were played at Smith College and Amherst College in addition to Mount Holyoke.

From top to bottom, Mount Holyoke's lineup featured sophomore Randima Ranaweera, senior Shara Robertson, sophomore Katrina Intal, junior Kathryn Brummer, senior Marie Ozanne, senior Paulina Rojek, first year Dachelle Parker, sophomore Elyse Taylor and senior Sarah Moore. All nine players posted shutouts for the Lyons, who moved to 24-4 all-time versus Haverford. They have defeated the Fords 13 times in a row.

Mount Holyoke (8-5) is slated to compete in the Maine Event with matches against Colby College, George Washington University, Bates College and Bowdoin College next weekend.
