Offensive Woes Doom Basketball at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. (Feb. 9, 2011) – Sophomore forward Theresa Logan delivered 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the WPI women's basketball team to a 47-26 victory over Mount Holyoke College this evening at Harrington Auditorium. With the win, the Engineers snapped a three game losing slide and completed the season sweep of their NEWMAC counterparts.

Emilie Methot Mount Holyoke was paced by sophomore guard Angelica Pascual, who tallied eight points and eight rebounds. First year forward Jennine Vizcaino collected five points and seven boards, while guards Christine Chancy and Annabel Barrett added four points apiece. The Lyons shot just 18.3% (11-60) from the floor and missed all 11 of their three-point attempts.

Logan went 8-of-11 from the field to set the tone for WPI. Junior guard Lauren Hannmann recorded nine points, while first year forward Siena Mamayek added seven off the bench. Senior forward Elle Fontaine chipped in with a game high 13 rebounds for the Engineers, who finished with a 47-38 edge on the glass.

WPI (15-6, 11-4 NEWMAC) took control of the contest with a 19-1 run in the first half. Logan netted 10 of her 17 points during the spurt, which spanned just under 15 minutes. Her layup at the 3:53 mark put the Engineers in front 22-5. They enjoyed a 26-9 cushion at the half and led by as many as 25 points in the waning minutes of the second stanza.

Mount Holyoke (6-15, 4-11 NEWMAC) will resume its NEWMAC slate at MIT on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
