THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke hosts NEWMAC foe WPI this evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. In 30 previous meetings between the programs, the Engineers own an 18-12 advantage. They have topped the Lyons six straight times. Three of those wins came last winter. THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (2-9, 1-5 NEWMAC) has picked up wins over Vassar College (54-51) and Clark University (60-57) thus far this season. The Lyons have been paced by guard Angelica Pascual, who has racked up a team best 12.8 points per game to go with 17 assists. Seven of her 20 three-pointers came in a heartbreaking 62-60 setback in the opening game of the Seven Sisters Classic. Pascual finished with a program record 37 points in the contest. She was joined on the All-Classic Team by forward Tricia Chase, who has averaged 7.7 points and a squad high 7.2 rebounds per outing. Guard Christine Chancy has posted 6.5 points and 4.5 boards per game to go with a team best 22 assists. Meanwhile, forward Bree Hollinger has pulled down 6.0 rebounds per contest for Mount Holyoke, which has amassed 158 offensive boards over its first 11 games.
THE ENGINEERS: Three players have averaged double digits in the scoring column for WPI (9-3, 5-1 NEWMAC), which has rolled to four straight victories and owns a 5-1 mark in league play. The Engineers have been paced by guard Elle Fontaine, who has posted 12.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game to go with 26 assists, 21 steals and 15 blocked shots. Fellow guard Lauren Hannmann has drained 14 shots from beyond the arc en route to scoring a team best 13.1 points per game. She has shot 49.2% (64-130) from the field and has also pulled down 5.4 boards per outing. Forward Theresa Logan has averaged 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, guard Baillie McNally has dished out a squad high 37 assists. WPI has limited its opponents to 52.9 points per game. The Engineers have defeated NEWMAC foes Smith College (58-53), Clark University (75-44), Springfield College (58-51), the Coast Guard Academy (51-27) and Wheaton College (61-52).
NEXT UP: Both squads will resume their NEWMAC schedules on Saturday. Mount Holyoke will host MIT at 1:00 p.m., while WPI will travel to Wellesley for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
