Basketball: Wheaton at Mount Holyoke

THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke resumes its 2010-11 slate versus Wheaton College Wednesday evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. In 33 previous meetings between the NEWMAC foes, Wheaton owns a 25-8 advantage. It swept the season series from Mount Holyoke last season, winning by scores of 57-46 and 62-58. Game Program

MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (2-7, 1-3 NEWMAC) has picked up wins over Vassar College (54-51) and Clark University (60-57) thus far this season. The Lyons have been paced by guard Angelica Pascual, who has racked up a team best 13.3 points per game to go with 15 assists. Seven of her 17 three-pointers came in a heartbreaking 62-60 setback in the opening game of the Seven Sisters Classic. Pascual finished with a program record 37 points in the contest. She was joined on the All-Classic Team by forward Tricia Chase, who has averaged 7.4 points and a squad high 8.0 rebounds per outing. Guard Christine Chancy has posted 7.3 points and 5.1 boards per game to go with a team best 17 assists. Meanwhile, forward Bree Hollinger has pulled down 6.6 rebounds per contest for Mount Holyoke, which has amassed 143 offensive boards over its first nine games.

Opponent Logo THE LYONS: Wheaton (4-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) picked up its fourth win of the season on Monday, when it defeated Rivier College 79-59 in the consolation game of the Williams College Winter Classic. One day earlier, the Lyons fell 81-78 to Bridgewater State University despite a program record seven three-pointers from Jeana Trimboli. The guard finished with a career best 30 points in the contest on her way to earning All-Tournament Honors. With its second win of the season over Rivier, Wheaton snapped a three game slide. The Lyons have also defeated the University of New England (58-55) and the Coast Guard Academy (63-44) thus far this season. Trimboli has drained 33 treys en route to 17.0 points per game. Wheaton has also received solid production  from forward Gabbie DePalo, who has registered 8.0 points and a team best 8.3 rebounds per outing. Forward Natasha Colon-Ortiz has posted 7.6 points and 7.0 boards per game, while guard Laura Pierce has dished out a squad high 46 assists.  

NEXT UP: Both squads will resume their NEWMAC schedules on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke will visit perennial power Babson College, while Wheaton will travel to WPI.
