#10 Brown Trips Up Squash

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 19, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's squash team fell 8-1 to Brown University this afternoon in front of its home crowd. With their third win in a row, the tenth ranked Bears improved to 4-3 on the year. The Lyons fell to 7-6.

Shaheen Madraswala Mount Holyoke's lone point came from first year Shaheen Madraswala, who rallied for a 3-2 victory over senior Carolyn Tilney at the number four slot. After falling behind 2-1, Madraswala took the fourth game 12-10 to level the score. She then prevailed 11-6 in the fifth game to secure her 10th win of the season.

Fellow first year Randima Ranaweera took sophomore Sarah Crosky to the limit before falling 3-2 at the number one position. Meanwhile, junior Shara Robertson and sophomore Tempest Bowden each suffered 3-1 setbacks at the two and three spots, respectively. Robertson was downed by first year Sarah Domenick, while Bowden fell to first year Dori Rahbar.

Brown's remaining wins came from junior Nikki Fadaifard, sophomore Lydia Smith, senior Sophie Scherl, sophomore Kyla Harrington and junior Erika Kohnen.

Both squads are slated to take part in the Yale University Round Robin this weekend. After facing off against Yale (9:00 a.m.), St. Lawrence University (2:00 p.m.) and Bowdoin College (4:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Mount Holyoke will take on Middlebury College on Sunday (11:30 a.m.). Meanwhile, Brown will tangle with Stanford (2:00 p.m.) and Yale (7:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
