#8 Dartmouth Too Much For Squash

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 11, 2011) – The eighth ranked Dartmouth College women's squash team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College this evening at the Mount Holyoke Squash Courts. With their second win in a row, the Big Green improved to 4-2 on the season. The Lyons saw their six match winning streak come to a close. They will enter the weekend with a 6-3 mark.

Mount Holyoke's top performances of the day came from first year first years Shaheen Madraswala and Katrina Intal, who each fell in four games. After taking the first game of her number four match, Madraswala was topped 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-9 by sophomore Becky Lau. Meanwhile, Intal was downed 11-8, 3-11, 12-10, 11-3 by first year Melina Turk at the number five position.

Two of the top 25 individually ranked players in the nation squared off in the number one match. Representing Mount Holyoke was 25th ranked Randima Ranaweera. The first year fell 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 to fifth ranked Valeria Wiens despite owning leads in the first and third games.

Dartmouth's remaining wins came from Hannah Conant, Corey Schafer, Kensy Balch, Julia Watson, Katherine Nimmo and Heather Binnie.

The Lyons (6-3) are slated to host the Pioneer Valley Invitational this weekend. A total of 43 matches will take place at Mount Holyoke, Smith College and Amherst College. Both men's and women's teams will compete in the event, which is scheduled to begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday.

Mount Holyoke will open its weekend against Bates College on Friday at 5:00 p.m. The Lyons will then face off against Columbia University at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before concluding with a match against Colby College at 4:00 p.m. later that day. Over the past four seasons, they have posted a perfect 16-0 mark at the tournament.

Dartmouth (4-2) will kick off a four match homestand versus Trinity College Saturday at noon.
