    Third year head coach Allen Fitzsimmons guided the Mount Holyoke squash team to a record of 14-12 in 2010-11. Using a balanced attack, the Lyons finished with a CSA ranking of 12th nationally for the second year in a row.

    Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration last Thursday, 24 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 12 teams were honored as part of the College's third annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

    The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

    Hundreds of Mount Holyoke athletes gathered on Skinner Green this afternoon for a flash mob to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. Members of both varsity and club sports participated in the event, which was designed to showcase the unity that exists among athletes across campus.
  • Five Lyons Compete in CSA Individual Championships

    Senior Viushi Gurunada, sophomore Shara Robertson, first year Randima Ranaweera, sophomore Tempest Bowden and first year Shaheen Madraswala competed in the 2011 College Squash Association Individual Championships at Dartmouth College over the weekend. Gurunada posted a 4-2 mark to lead the way for the Lyons.
  • Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value College

    Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.
  • Squash Edged By Bates in Consolation Round of National Championships

    For the second year in a row, Mount Holyoke was edged 5-4 by Bates in the consolation match of CSA National Championships at Princeton University. Senior Vidushi Gurunada, junior Shara Robertson, first year Shaheen Madraswala and sophomore Tempest Bowden each collected wins for the Lyons.

    Seventh seeded Mount Holyoke rolled to a thrilling 6-3 triumph over second seeded Middlebury today in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 CSA National Championships. With the upset win, the Lyons advanced to tomorrow’s Kurtz Cup (B Division) semifinals, where they will face off against Williams. Their top six players each prevailed.

    Mount Holyoke is slated to compete in the 2011 CSA National Championships this weekend at Princeton. After posting an overall record of 13-10 during the regular season, the Lyons have earned the seventh seed in the Kurtz Cup. They will face off against second seeded Middlebury in a quarterfinal round match on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
  • Perennial Powerhouse Princeton Tops Squash

    Mount Holyoke closed out its regular season with a 9-0 loss to fifth ranked Princeton this afternoon in front of its home crowd. Prior to the contest, senior Vidushi Gurunada was honored for her contributions to the program over the last four years. A fixture at the top of the lineup, she has posted a dual match record of 56-17.

    Mount Holyoke suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 setback to Amherst this evening in front of its home crowd. First year Randima Ranaweera, junior Shara Robertson, sophomore Tempest Bowden and first year Katrina Intal earned points for the Lyons, who saw their four match winning streak come to and end. They had prevailed in each of the four previous meetings between the programs.

    Mount Holyoke hosts Amherst College Friday evening (6:00 p.m.) at the Mount Holyoke Squash Courts. In 17 previous meetings between the programs, the Lord Jeffs own a 13-4 advantage. The Lyons have prevailed in each of the previous four contests between the teams. Last winter, they won by a score of 7-2. Both squads enter the match ranked within the top 15 nationally.
  • Robertson Earns National Player of the Week Honors

    Shara Robertson has earned the College Squash Association Player of the Week award after leading Mount Holyoke to its unprecedented fifth straight Seven Sisters Championship over the weekend. The junior was nearly unstoppable for the Lyons in their 9-0 wins over Smith and Vassar on Saturday. Playing in the number three position, she dropped just 15 points en route to earning All-Tournament honors for the third straight year.

    For the fifth consecutive season, Mount Holyoke grabbed top honors at the Seven Sisters Championship. After racing to a 9-0 victory over Smith in the semifinals, the Lyons blanked Vassar College 9-0 in the championship. Sophomore Shara Robertson and first year Shaheen Madraswala earned All-Tournament honors.

    The Mount Holyoke squash team split four matches at the Yale University Round Robin this weekend. After falling 9-0 to perennial power Yale yesterday morning, the Lyons rebounded with a 9-0 triumph over St. Lawrence University. They closed out the day with an 8-1 victory over Bowdoin College before falling 7-2 to Middlebury College today.

    Twenty-three teams from around the northeast region will take part in the 2011 Pioneer Valley Invitational this weekend. Both men’s and women’s squads are slated to compete in the event, which is scheduled to begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday. The tournament will feature 43 matches and will take place at Amherst College and Smith College in addition to Mount Holyoke.

The first year posted a perfect 4-0 record, dropping just 32 points in the process.

Over the course of the day, they won all 18 matches in straight sets. They closed out the weekend with an overall record of 2-2.
