Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 3rd

RIDING

The Lyons had an excellent performance last weekend at the Region 3 Championships, earning a first place finish, and seeing five riders qualify in both flat and fences. The effort was led by senior Bridget Finnerty (Baltimore, Md.), who won the year-end regional high point fences award and flat award. Mount Holyoke returns home for the final time this season on Saturday when it hosts the Zone 1 Championships. Action is set to begin at 9:00am.

TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke was set to race in the CGA Spring Invitational, but the competition was cancelled due to weather. The Lyons will return to action on Saturday at the Smith College Invitational for an 11:00am start time.

 

LACROSSE

The Lyons (2-7) posted a 1-1 record last week beginning with a 14-11 loss at Emerson in the NEWMAC opener on Wednesday. Junior Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass.) led the attack with four goals, while also pacing Mount Holyoke in a 15-4 loss at Babson on Sunday. The Lyons will be on the road again on Wednesday, facing Wheaton at 7:00pm. MHC then closes out the week at home against Springfield at 12pm.

TENNIS

The Lyons lost 5-4 to Connecticut College in a match the came down to a final dual at the top of the ladder. Senior captain Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) had another strong performance, picking up a win in singles, which puts her at 13-1 for the season. Mount Holyoke (10-6) returns to action on Saturday for a chance at the Seven Sisters Championship, beginning with Bryn Mawr College (1-3) at 9:30am.

GOLF

Mount Holyoke was idle last week, but returns to the links on April 8 when it travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to compete at the Vassar Invitational. The event runs through April 9.

 

ROWING

The Lyons were scheduled for a 10:00am start time on Saturday against Union-J&W and Amherst, but the race was cancelled due to inclement weather. Mount Holyoke will be back on the water against Clark University on Sunday morning.
