Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Nov. 7th

FIELD HOCKEY

The field hockey went 1-1 to conclude its 2016 season last week. In the NEWMAC Quarterfinals, the Lyons posted a 2-1 win at Wellesley in double-overtime to advance to the semifinals for the fourth straight season. MHC squared off against top-seeded Babson for the second straight year on Saturday in the Semis, shouldering a tough 1-0 loss to conclude their year.

Mount Holyoke finished with a 12-7 overall record, going 5-3 in NEWMAC play. It marked the 18th straight appearance in the NEWMAC Tournament for the Lyons.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

The Lyons were idle last week, but return to action on Saturday when they compete at the 2016 NCAA New England Regional Championships, hosted at Westfield State University.

 

RIDING

The Lyons did not compete last weekend, but are back in action this week, heading to Biscuit Hill Farm on Saturday at the Amherst College IHSA Show.

 

SWIMMING & DIVING

Mount Holyoke had another solid weekend, posting a 137-125 victory at the University of New England on Saturday. The Lyons saw four different swimmers record four or more victories, including senior Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass.), who not only had two individual wins and two relay wins, but also set two UNE pool records as well. MHC is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Westfield State for a 1pm dual meet.

 

SQUASH

The Lyons kicked-off their 2016-17 season on Saturday, besting Fordham (9-0), while shouldering a tough 7-2 loss to Vassar. Among the highlights was senior captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn.), who went 2-0 on the day. MHC (1-1) is back in action on Saturday when it faces Smith (10am) and Northeastern (12pm). Both matches will take place at Smith College.
