Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Feb. 6th

 RIDING

Mount Holyoke is idle until March 4, when it hosts a home show at the MHC Equestrian Center.

 

SWIMMING & DIVING

Mount Holyoke hosted its final home meet of the season last Saturday, shouldering a tough 167-119 loss to Smith. The Lyons saw several solid efforts, while also honoring its four graduating seniors, including Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass.), Tristan Strange (Easthampton, Mass.) and captains Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H.) and Emily Craig (Rochester, N.Y.). Mount Holyoke (2-8) is now idle until February 16 when it travels to WPI for the 2017 NEWMAC Championships. Action runs from the 16th through the 19th with preliminary rounds at 10am and finals beginning at 6pm each evening.

 

SQUASH

The Lyons returned to action on Saturday, shouldering a 6-3 loss to William Smith at home. Sophomore Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn.) gutted out a 3-1 victory from the fifth position for MHC. Mount Holyoke (3-15) is right back in action on Wednesday at 6pm when it hosts Amherst at the Kendall Courts. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday, hosting the 2017 Seven Sisters Championship. Action begins at 10am as MHC takes on Smith.

 

BASKETBALL

Mount Holyoke suffered losses against WPI and Emerson in NEWMAC action last week. First year guard Kathryn Violette (Yokosuka City, Japan) paced the way for MHC against Emerson, recording a career-high 21 points. The Lyons (2-18; 0-13 NEWMAC) are back on the court on Tuesday when they host Norwich at 7pm in non-conference action. Mount Holyoke closes out the week at MIT in a 1pm conference tilt on Saturday.

TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons were back in action on Saturday at the 2017 Wesleyan Invitational. MHC was paced by first year Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass.) who finished sixth in the 200-meter dash. Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travles to Cambridge to compete at the MIT Invitational.
