BOSTON, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its year-end honors and five Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were named to the conference's All-Sportsmanship Team.
The award, which was established by the NEWMAC this academic year, is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
Recognized from tennis was senior captain Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo). During the fall season, Chen posted a 10-1 mark in singles action all from the sixth flight. She also notched a 7-1 record in conference play, which included wins against opponents from nationally-ranked Wellesley and Babson.
In cross country, first year Alicia Moroyoqui (Groton, Conn./Robert E. Fitch) was tabbed. In her rookie season, she has had a number of solid efforts for the Lyons, including 42nd overall and first on the team at the 2016 NEWMAC Championships. She also placed 40th at the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship and notched 42nd at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. MHC concludes its season on Saturday at the NCAA New England Regional Championships at Westfield State (12pm).
Junior captain and forward Kaitlin Braz (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for field hockey. Playing in all 19 games for the Lyons, including 18 starts, she recorded three goals and three assists. Braz also had two game-winning goals, including the go-ahead tally that lifted the Lyons to a 2-1 win over Wellesley in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals.
From soccer, junior captain and midfielder Suz Rose (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) was selected. A starter in all 18 games for the Lyons, she had a goal with two assists for four points. Rose also posted 10 shots, including six on goal. Her tally came in a key 3-2 victory over Wellesley in early October.
Rounding out the Sportsmanship honors was sophomore right side Isabell Linde (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), who appeared in 18 matches during the 2016 campaign. Playing in 45 sets, she recorded seven kills. Linde also added three assists with 40 digs.
