SOCCER

Mount Holyoke posted a solid opening week, defeating Southern Vermont, 7-0, before falling to UMass-Dartmouth, 1-0. In the win over the Mountaineers, the Lyons saw rookies McKenna Lamb (Redland, Calif.) and Hannah Finn-Erb (Northampton, Mass.) each record a natural hat trick to start their collegiate careers. MHC (1-1) is back on the pitch on Tuesday when it travels to Amherst for a 7pm match. The Lyons close out the week at home on Saturday, hosting Wesleyan University at 12pm.

The Lyons were paced by goals from sophomores Colby Newsham (Harvard, Mass.) and Kristina Ramsden (Florence, Mass.). MHC (0-1) is back in action on Thursday when it travels to Amherst for a 7pm match. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday, welcoming Castleton for a 2pm contest on the Turf Field.

TENNIS

Mount Holyoke opened its 2016 season in fine fashion last week, defeating Nichols (7-2) and NEWMAC-rival Wheaton (7-2). Leading the way was senior captain Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) who posted a 2-0 mark in sixth flight singles, as well as third flight doubles with partner and fellow senior captain, Alexa Colas (Teaneck, N.J.). MHC (2-0) looks to continue its winning ways on Monday morning when it hosts Simmons at 11am. The Lyons close out the week with conference action, welcoming Emerson and Wellesley on Saturday (12pm) and Sunday (11am), respectively.

VOLLEYBALL

The Lyons went 1-1 in their opening week, defeating the University of St. Joseph, 3-0, but falling to Western New England, 3-0. MHC was paced by sophomore middle hitter Joy Maran (Santa Fe, N.M.), who recorded a match-best 12 kills in the victory. Mount Holyoke (1-1) returns to the courts on Tuesday, hosting MCLA at 7pm. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday, traveling to Newport, R.I., to take on Rhode Island College (12pm) and host Salve Regina (2pm) in tri-match action.
