Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 17th

RIDING

The Lyons will be idle until May 4th after a first place showing in the Zone 1 Championship to advance to the IHSA National Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.

TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke returned to action on Saturday in the Spring Fling meet, which saw the host Lyons place third in a field of 10. MHC saw a number of solid performances including junior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio), sophomore Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa.), and first year Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass.), who each had first place finishes in the 10k, hammer throw, and the 200m dash, respectively. The Lyons will be back in action on Friday at the Aloha Relays in Brunswick, Maine. The meet runs until Saturday.

LACROSSE

Mount Holyoke went 1-1 last week after besting Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday. In the win, junior attack Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass.) led the game with four goals, while three Lyons players recorded an assist. As a team, MHC was 15-15 on clear attempts against the Bears. Mount Holyoke (3-10; 1-5 NEWMAC) is back at home on Tuesday, facing Connecticut College at 6:30pm, before hosting Wellesley College on Saturday at 12:00pm. Saturday's match will also be Senior Day for MHC's four graduating seniors.

TENNIS

The Lyons ended the season on a high-note with two wins on the road over Gordon College (8-1) and Endicott College (8-1). MHC dominated throughout the week, only surrendering one match in singles, and one match in doubles. Mount Holyoke concluded its season with a 14-8 overall record, going 5-3 in NEWMAC play during the fall. The squad advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament Semifinals for the third straight season.

GOLF

Mount Holyoke had a solid performance last weekend at the Jack Leaman Invitational, placing fifth in a field of 11. Senior captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn.) was the top performer for the Lyons, tying for 11th with a combined score of 159, after shooting an 80 on Saturday, and a score of 79 on Sunday. MHC will be back on the links on Saturday and Sunday at the Liberty League Championships hosted by New York University.

ROWING

The Lyons were idle last week and will be back on the water this weekend in New London, Conn., against Coast Guard Academy and Johnson & Wales on Saturday.
