Coast Guard Blanks Volleyball, 3-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. (Sept. 21, 2010) – Led by sophomore Catherine Walker, the Coast Guard Academy women's volleyball team topped New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College 3-0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-11) this evening. The outside hitter delivered a season best 12 kills, while classmate Lauren Bloch and first year Kelsey DePorto added eight apiece.

The Bears (8-3, 2-1 NEWMAC) also received solid production from sophomore setter Karen Matic, who posted a double-double on 28 assists and 18 digs.

Mount Holyoke was paced by sophomore right side hitter Morgan Cooley, who collected four kills. Senior setter Kateryna Kuc notched nine assists, while first year outside hitter Martina Kneifel totaled 10 digs.

The Lyons (3-4, 0-3 NEWMAC) will look to put an end to their four match losing slide on Saturday, when they host Elms College and Castleton State College for a tri-match. After facing off against Elms College at noon, they will meet Castleton State at 4:00 p.m.
