THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (5-8, 0-4 NEWMAC) Mount Holyoke has collected five wins over its first 13 contests of the season. In addition to their 3-0 victories over Bay Path College, St. Joseph College, Elms College and Castleton State College, the Lyons also downed Daniel Webster College 3-2. Outside hitter Martina Kneifel has made an immediate impact as a first year. Over her first 12 collegiate contests, she has collected five double-doubles. Her 2.44 kills per set and 20 service aces are good for tops on the squad, and she has also delivered 3.56 digs per set. Kneifel was named NEWMAC Player of the Week on September 13. Mount Holyoke has also received solid production from setter Kateryna Kuc, who has dished out 6.02 assists per set to go with 18 aces. Outside hitters Kathryn Brummer and Morgan Cooley have chipped in with 1.72 and 1.48 kills per set, respectively. Meanwhile, defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo has collected a team high 3.91 digs per set. Middle hitters Tyler Protano-Goodwin and Kristina Weld have registered 14 and 12 blocks, respectively for the Lyons.
THE COUGARS: After opening the season with an overall record of 3-1, Clark has dropped seven of its last eight contests. The Cougars have collected wins over Mount Ida College (3-0), Assumption College (3-1), WPI (3-0) and Babson College (3-1). They have been paced by outside hitter Martiza Fair, who has piled up a team best 2.93 kills per set to go with 3.37 digs per set. Outside hitter Katie Byrnes has amassed 2.00 kills and 2.30 digs per set. Meanwhile, defensive specialist Kortney Kelley has posted a squad high 4.34 digs per set. Clark's offensive attack has been orchestrated by setter Rachel Spera, who has dished out 7.97 assists per set. The Cougars have also received a boost from middle blocker Kristen McGinty, who has tallied team highs of 14 service aces and 16 blocks.
NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will return to action on Saturday, when it hosts the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Becker College for a tri-match. The Lyons will face off against MCLA at noon and Becker at 4:00 p.m. Clark is slated to host Connecticut College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
