Volleyball Drops a Pair at LEC / NEWMAC Challenge

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (Oct. 16, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks at the third annual Little East Conference (LEC) / New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Challenge today in Plymouth, N.H.

After falling to Keene State College, the Lyons were downed by host Plymouth State University. In the afternoon's other matches, Smith College was topped 3-1 by Keene State and 3-0 by Plymouth State. All four contests took place at Foley Gymnasium.

First year outside hitter Martina Kneifel collected three kills, nine digs, two blocks and a pair of aces in Mount Holyoke's first match of the day against Keene State. The Lyons also received a boost from senior setter Kateryna Kuc, who amassed nine assists and nine digs. Middle hitters Kristina Weld and Tyler Protano-Goodwin added three kills and two blocks, respectively.

Sophomores Morgan Cooley and Kathryn Brummer registered six kills apiece in Mount Holyoke's nightcap against Plymouth State. Kuc delivered 13 assists, while Weld tallied four service aces. Senior defensive specialist Kara Neidhardt chipped in with eight digs.

Mount Holyoke (7-12, 0-6 NEWMAC) will resume its NEWMAC slate on Tuesday, when it tangles with longtime rival Smith at 7:00 p.m.
