Volleyball: Mount Holyoke to Host MCLA and Becker for Tri-Match

THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke hosts the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Becker College for a tri-match Saturday afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. After facing off against MCLA at noon, the Lyons will meet up with Becker at 4:00 p.m. The remaining match will feature MCLA and Becker at 2:00 p.m. In 13 previous contests against MCLA, Mount Holyoke owns an 12-1 advantage. The Lyons have been perfect in two previous matches against Becker. Tri-Match Program

MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (5-9, 0-5 NEWMAC) has collected five wins over its first 14 contests of the season. In addition to their 3-0 victories over Bay Path College, St. Joseph College, Elms College and Castleton State College, the Lyons also downed Daniel Webster College 3-2. Outside hitter Martina Kneifel has made an immediate impact as a first year. Over her first 13 collegiate contests, she has collected five double-doubles. Her 2.37 kills per set and 20 service aces are good for tops on the squad, and she has also delivered 3.48 digs per set. Kneifel was named NEWMAC Player of the Week on September 13. Mount Holyoke has also received solid production from setter Kateryna Kuc, who has dished out 5.86 assists per set to go with 19 aces. Outside hitters Kathryn Brummer and Morgan Cooley have chipped in with 1.69 and 1.40 kills per set, respectively. Meanwhile, defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo has collected a team high 3.82 digs per set.

Opponent Logo THE TRAILBLAZERS: MCLA (8-6, 1-1 MASCAC) exploded out of the gate, winning its first five matches and eight of its first ten. The Trailblazers have since fallen four straight times. Their wins have come against Eastern Nazarene College (3-1), St. Joseph College (3-1), Castleton State College (3-0), Becker College (3-0), Cazenovia College (3-0), Bay Path College (3-0), Bard College (3-0) and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (3-0).

Opponent Logo THE HAWKS: After dropping seven of its first eight matches, Becker (5-12, 0-1 NECC) has rebounded to post a 4-5 mark over the past two weeks. The Hawks have defeated the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (3-0), Curry College (3-0), Lyndon State College (3-0), Johnson State College (3-0) and St. Joseph College (3-1).

NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will return to action on Thursday, when it hosts NEWMAC foe WPI at 7:00 p.m. Meanwhile, MCLA will entertain Bridgewater State University on Monday at 2:00 p.m., and Becker will visit Anna Maria College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
