Murphy Takes Third on One-Meter Board; Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Day Two of NEWMAC Championships

Cambridge, Mass. - February 18, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the 2022 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, hosted at MIT's Zesiger Sport and Fitness Center and is currently seventh with 149 points. 

Highlighting the day for the Lyons was a third-place result in the one-meter diving competition for senior Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.), who produced a mark of 430.70 in the prelims, before taking third overall with a mark of 421.55 in the finals.

Beginning the day for Mount Holyoke with the 200 freestyle relay prelims, the team of first-year Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.), senior Caitlyn Richmond (Florence, Mass.), sophomore Adji Diouf (Arlington, Va.), and senior Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) took 14th overall with a time of 1:44.82. Finishing the relay in 1:52.01, the team of senior Jess Mohr (Kennett Square, Pa.), first-year Emily Tarinelli (Groton, Conn.), classmates Lauren Madsen (Ghent, N.Y.) and Helen Frank (Rochester, N.Y.) finished 20th overall.

Sophomore Eliza Williams (Andover, Mass.) was the Lyons' top performer in the 500 freestyle prelims, clocking in at 5:24.10, while in the 200 individual medley prelims, junior Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas) posted a time of 2:19.29 to lead Mount Holyoke College's two student-athletes in the event.

In the 50 freestyle prelims, Schneider finished first for Mount Holyoke clocking in at 25.54 seconds. Wrapping up the morning session, the 400 medley relay team of junior Anais Magner (Whakatane, New Zealand), junior Erin Schrama (Providence, R.I.), sophomore Lily Nemirovsky (Bedford, Mass.), and Schneider finished 16th with a time of 4:29.22.

The Lyons had a trio of student-athletes competing in the women's one-meter diving prelims, as senior Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) finished third with a score of 430.70. In the finals, Murphy finished third overall with a final score of 421.55, while first-year Sophie Simon (Menlo Park, Calif.) was fifth, producing a mark of 368.10. Classmate Lilje Stratton (Bellevue, Wash.) was 10th with a score of 338.30. 

Entering the evening session, the 200 freestyle relay team of Schneider, Richmond, Diouf, and Corr were ninth with a combined time of 1:42.41, while the 400 medley relay team of Magner, Schrama, Nemirovsky, and Schneider took ninth with a time of 4:13.43. 

The Lyons will return to action on Saturday, February 19 with the morning session of day three of the 2022 NEWMAC Championships will begin at 10 a.m.
