Swimming and Diving Claims Victory at UNE

Biddeford, Maine - November 6, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team cruised to a 151-91 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Pool. 

Three student-athletes claimed two victories apiece as Eliza Williams (Andover, Mass.) won the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, while Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) won a pair of butterfly events, taking the 200 fly and the 100 fly to help the Lyons to victory.

Starting off with the 200 medley relay, the team of Anais Magner (Whakatane, New Zealand), Bushway, Kamlyn Yosick (Portland, Ore.) and Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.) collected victory with a time of 2:02.54, while the team of Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas), Erin Schrama (Providence, R.I.), Emily Tarinelli (Groton, Conn.) and Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) took third with a time of 2:08.59.

Mount Holyoke's Williams and Heierhoff finished first and second respectively in the 1000 freestyle as Williams clocked in at 11:45.27, followed by Heierhoff's time of 11:53.70. Bushway took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.42 while Gigi Picard (Wilmette, Ill.) was fourth with a mark of 2:22.05.

The Lyons took second, third and fourth in the 100 backstroke with Adji Diouf (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) notching a team-best time of 1:06.85, followed by Magner's time of 1:07.94 and Leese who clocked in at 1:07.98. Schrama then claimed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.81 to earn points for the Lyons. Heierhoff and Tarinelli were two of three competitors in the 200 butterfly as Heierhoff won the event with a time of 2:25.72, followed by a third-place time of 2:42.30 from Tarinelli.

Schneider and Yosick took first and second, respectively, in the 50 freestyle as Schneider won with a time of 26.51 seconds, followed closely by Yosick's runner-up time of 26.92. Diouf then took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.22 seconds, followed by Schneider who clocked a time of 59.63 and Yosick, who was fourth with a time of 1:00.69.

Magner and Leese were second and third, respectively, in the 200 backstroke as Magner recorded a team-best time of 2:26.89 followed by Leese's mark of 2:27.45. Bushway then claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:45.78 and Williams won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:47.84. 

The Lyons continued their run of wins as Heierhoff took the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.04 and was followed by Tarinelli (1:10.57) and Lauren Madsen (Ghent, N.Y.), who registered a time of 1:12.11. Next was a win from Bushway in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:29.08, followed by Leese who turned in a time of 2:31.70. 

The team of Williams, Schneider, Diouf and Yosick led the way in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.27, before the Lyons rounded out the meet with a pair of sprint events. In the 50 fly, Seran Goudsouzian (Hellertown, Pa.) had the top time of 32.33 seconds, while in the 50 breaststroke, Diouf notched a meet-best time of 39.56 seconds.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will host their first meet of the 2021-22 season on Saturday, November 13 as the Lyons will welcome Westfield State to the MHC Natatorium for a 1 p.m. start.
