No. 17 Wheaton Outlasts Swimming and Diving in Dual Meet

Norton, Mass. - January 13, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team fell to nationally-ranked Wheaton College in a battle among New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes at the Balfour Natatorium on Thursday afternoon. The final score was 142-87. 

Heading into the meet, Wheaton was ranked No. 17 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III National Rankings, as the hosts claimed nine of 13 events.

Senior diver Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) had an impressive meet, easily winning the one-meter diving event for MHC with a score of 256.15. Murphy was in control on both boards, later winning the three-meter event with a score of 269.55. First year Lilje Stratton (Bellevue, Wash.) placed second on both boards for Mount Holyoke with scores of 208.75 and 209.90 in the one and three-meter events.

Sophomore Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) posted an official winning time of 1:17.37 in the 100-yard breaststroke for MHC prior to the visitors' official win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, courtesy of the first year foursome of Callie Yosick (Portland, Ore.), Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.), Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) and Emily Tarinelli (Groton, Conn.). The road Lyons submitted a time of 4:01.30. 

Mount Holyoke will now turn their attention to the Sisters Invitational, a two-day meet hosted at Wellesley College this upcoming weekend. The meet is set to begin on Saturday, January 15 at 10:30 a.m.
